Update #1 | The Stress That Is Uni

There are some days where I look at my blogging schedule and think oh god... how am I supposed to write this many posts before then.. I've stuck to publishing a new post every other day since the beginning (it wasn't that long ago but..) I'm not planning on breaking this schedule any time soon. So I thought, when I'm stuck for time, instead of getting out a load of beauty products or getting my kitchen in a huge mess from baking I would give you a little update about what's going on in my life at the moment. I just feel like this is so much easier than trying to review a product or do a haul, so I can just write it all out in one sitting and get it done a lot quicker!

So, for those of you who don't know I'm currently in my second year of University, I'm studying early childhood studies and trying to juggle getting work experience (placement) in a school and all of the assignments! I've just got back from my Christmas break and I'm still honestly not out of Christmas mode, and for some reason they decided to make January the busiest month for assignments. The assignments seem to all be really really difficult too, the questions are all so broad and I honestly spend DAYS writing essays! The ironic part is I end up missing lectures to write these essays and then I end up missing things.. ugh! I need to get in control of my life!! This week I have 2 due on the same day, so I'm spending every waking hour working on those -making it extremely difficult to run a blog at the same time. Oh! and my social life has pretty much faded into nothing at this point (the only time I talk to friends is through Whatsapp and we all just tend to complain about assignments...) You probably can't tell, but I'm really enjoying my course, it's just a lot of work to deal with and I didn't realise how much of a step up second year would be from the first year!!

If some of you don't know I also moved out of my family home, around 5 months ago, I live with my boyfriend who goes to the same Uni as me. So, I also have to put house work in with the mix of things I need to do. I am enjoying living away from home and obviously I love living with my boyfriend but I do miss the little luxuries of living with your parents - expensive food, clean house, clean washing.. it was the life! haha! So, to be honest, our house does get into a bit of a state when I've got a lot going on at Uni.. but it doesn't stay that way for long - tidy house, tidy mind is my moto!

You may have also noticed that I've changed the layout of my blog (it was quite a while ago now to be honest) I fell into the trap of looking at other peoples blogs and getting really jealous at the layouts and the colours they used (which is such a bad thing to do by the way!!) so I was constantly changing my layout around, but I think I've found the perfect one and I'm finally happy with the way it looks now! I'm also so glad I managed to figure out how to separate my 'beauty' 'baking' and 'lifestyle' labeled posts in my navigation bar! HTML gives me such a headache but it makes me feel so proud when I finally figure out how to do something!! I'd love to know what you think about the new layout - let me know in the comments!

I'd love it if you would let me know either in the comments or via twitter @jemmasimplelife whether you would enjoy these types of posts in the future - I was thinking I could do an update once a month or something.. although my life is not that interesting to be honest! Let me know what you think!

  1. My education is doing the same, they planned an exam on the first day after the holidays.. Which meant me studying every single day in my break :(
I also had problems with my navigation bar, it was a real pain in the ass haha. But as you said once you accomplish something like that it can make you so happy! I only still have to figure out how to centre mine. You've got any tips? Love ♥

    1. That really does suck, it's like they think we should have a life in the Christmas holidays!!
I don't really consider myself that good at HTML but I know that to center something you need to put "< center >" and "< /center >" (without spaces) around the thing you want centered..? I'm not sure if that will work haha! I always end up just messing about with it until it works! Good luck x

  2. Hi dear :) I follow you on Twitter and I really like your blog. I'm a University student too (last year) and it's hard to find some time to write on the blog. Don't worry if you can't do all the things you want. You do a great job xx

    1. Hi lovely! Thank you so much following me on twitter and for your lovely comment! It can be really difficult to juggle everything, but to be honest blogging is more of a hobbie to me, so I don't mind the work that goes into it, I just need to remember that uni work comes first! xx

  3. I know how you feel! Third year is even worse, trust me. Just take it one step at a time and you'll get through it, but remember that your education should come first! Take time away from blogging if you need it, no one will judge you :)

  5. I am stressed with school like hell. Today was the first day I got back after break and I already have two tests this week. It's so difficult to maintain blogging and studying. And HTML gives me headache as well, I do not like it. As I said before, your layout looks amazing :)

  7. It sounds like you are extremely thorough in whatever you undertake! It's been forever since I went to Uni but I remember the workload being tremendous there. I tried working to support myself at the time but it was too much for me and I didn't finish there at Uni.
I love the new layout of your blog!

    1. Uni can be so stressful at times, I'm really trying to just keep going though, because I know it'll be worth it in the end! It's a shame you didn't get to finish uni but I know how crazy it can get when you have so much work to do, especially if you're working too!

Thank you so much lovely! :)

  8. I share your pain! Balancing uni and blogging can sometimes seem near enough impossible! I'm currently doing my teaching placement and I feel like after all the planning and paperwork I'm too exhausted for anything let alone blogging! You seem to be doing great at balancing it all nonetheless though.

  12. There really isn't anything worse than struggling with school placements, uni assignments and then anything else on top of it! I did early years and primary education so I know the struggle far too well. I am in awe at how you manage to post every other day and still balance placement and university! xxx

I remember I got really stressed back in Year 10 too, don't stress too much and make sure you give yourself enough free time to do the things you love! :) I love blogging and I love what I write about, so that's how I manage to post every other day!

  15. I just graduated college in May so I know what you're feeling! I'm in the US and I have a degree in elementary( or it may be primary? in the UK) education and there were times in college I did not think I was going to make through! But, I found, that passion beats everything! Best of luck and I'm sure you'll be able to find some downtime soon!!

  17. I love the design of your blog! I hope things get easier for you to work with. It has to be difficult juggling blogging, work, uni, boyfriend, housework, etc. I can't imagine! I don't have a boyfriend to worry about and I just clean a dorm room as my home but the rest I do too and I get overwhelmed with that.
