How To | Survive A Hangover

After trawling through the internet looking for blog ideas, I decided to start up a new series which I very originally named 'How To..' (give me a break okay?!) And naturally, as I am in fact writing this while hungover.. for my first How To post I've decided to let you know how I survive a hangover. Because lets be honest, sometimes we all overdo it and inevitably wake up feeling sorry for ourselves... unfortunately there's no cure, but we can mask that feeling of regret!

STEP #1 | EAT FIRST

If you're reading this while already hungover, I'm afraid you're too late for this step! This is something I would suggest doing before you even start drinking. Eating a meal before you drink is essential if you don't want to wake up feeling like you never want to drink again. This is one step that always helps me whenever I go out drinking and usually when I eat before drinking I can guarantee that I wont feel sick the next day!

STEP #2 | EAT AGAIN.. AND WATER!

Here's another step that can actually help you to avoid a hangover instead of just masking it! I NEVER skip this one whenever I go out drinking.. mainly because whenever I get drunk I always get hungry.. but it really does help me to not get hungover! I always always try to eat something before I go to bed. Admittedly, its not always the nicest looking food, and I always regret it in the morning, but it helps.. trust me! Also, don't forget to drink one big glass of cold water before you go to sleep, this will also help you out tomorrow!

STEP #3 | DRINK BUCKET LOADS OF WATER

Drinking can make you really dehydrated so the first thing I always do after a night out (once I find my bearings... and checked Snapchat to make sure there isn't anything too embarrassing on my story...) is grab a glass of water. If I'm lucky drunk Jemma will have poured one the night before so I don't even have to get out of bed! You then need to continue drinking as much water as you can throughout the day. Drinking water is the perfect way to re-hydrate without upsetting your stomach!

STEP #4 | PAIN RELIEF TABLETS

This step is self explanatory, because we all know that horrible throbbing hangover headache that makes you want to never get out of bed again. Although tablets won't cure your hangover they can help to relieve the symptoms for a short period of time.

STEP #5 | EAT MORE...! (STARCHY FOODS)

This is something my Mum always tells me to do whenever I'm hungover, instead of getting sympathy she just shoves toast in my face and tells me to eat...to be honest this does actually help me.
Whatever you do it is important to eat and I know this can be tough on a upset stomach, but bland foods such as toast and crackers are easier to get down.. so they'll do!

STEP #6 | SLEEP

No seriously.. go back to sleep! When you drink and you pass out on your bed, your body doesn't get a chance to go into deep sleep, so when you wake up hungover you're probably over tired too! So crawl back into bed, grab a blankets and relax.. you deserve it! And if you have school or work then you're just going to have to suck it up I'm afraid!

I hope you enjoyed this post, let me know in the comments what steps you take when you're hungover and if you do any of the ones I mentioned! Also, I would love to know what you think about this kind of post and whether you like the idea of a 'How To' series - let me know!

  5. These are all really good tips - particularly the drinking water tips! It's such an easy thing to do, but it's so often neglected =p If I have to recover quickly from a hangover, a pain killer and a meal replacement drink like Slim Fast seem to help me, but not many other people agree! I'll keep these tips to mind when I next have a late one!
