Review | Lush Granny Takes A Dip Bubble Bar

I've been waiting to use this bubble bar for quite a while now, the reviews are quite mixed, so I was overly excited to see how I got on with it! And today was finally the day, so I thought I would do a quick review for you! Also, can I just say, taking a camera into the bath with you is a really weird feeling.. that is all.

One of my favourite things about this bubble bar, is the colour. The bar itself is green, pink and blue and looks really girly and amazing! This is something I'm really drawn to with bath products (specifically bath bombs!) and Lush really hits the nail on the head when it comes to getting colours right! This bar also smells AMAZING! ( as do all Lush products to be honest...) the notes are lemon, black pepper and ginger oil, so it has quite a rich, creamy scent which fills the bathroom and also lingers on your skin once you've gotten out of the bath! I never used to be overly keen on spicy scents when it came to beauty products, but I have grown to love them since becoming overly attached to Lush's Christmas range which features A LOT of cinnamon - so the ginger in this bubble bar was definitely a bonus to the lovely scent!

However, the one thing that people seem to be disappointed with is the colour it turns your bath water. You'd expect it to turn your water a whole array of colours - bit of pink, bit of blue. But the colours mixed together just forms a sort of grey colour. (Boring!) One thing I love about lush it the way every bath product changes the colour of your bath water - this is all part of the bathing, relaxing experience! So when I discovered the colour it turned my bath, I must admit I was quite disappointed too!

Another thing I REALLY love about this bubble bar is the bubble payoff! I used a quarter of this bar (expecting to have to add another quarter) and the bubbles honestly filled my bath! I usually end up using around half of a bubble bar to get this many bubbles - so I don't really know why that was! But I don't hate it because as you know I LOVE bubbles in my bath!

This product also left my skin feeling velvety soft after the bath - as usual with pretty much all of Lush's bath products! It also left me feeling very fresh and clean with its gorgeous scent lingering on my skin! (why does that sound like a sentence in an erotic novel...?!)

Anyway, there you have it! That was my first ever Lush product review (well.. first ever bath product review!) So I hope I did a good job and that you enjoyed it! I would love to hear what you think in the comments below or tweet me @jemmasimplelife to let me know whether or not you would like to see these types of posts in the future!

  1. Great post! I've wanted to try Granny Takes A Dip for a while, it's a shame that it turns the water grey but those bubbles look fantastic!

    1. The bubbles really do make up for the grey bath water! I also tend to have the lights off with candles burning so it doesn't really make a difference to me! I still highly recommend it! x

    1. I'm glad you enjoyed it! Lush is sort of expensive for what you're getting, but in my opinion its totally worth it! There are so many benefits, especially from their bath products, since using them regularly my skin is so soft its crazy! Also, the fact that they don't test on animals is a huge benefit for me which makes the price totally worth it! I hope you do try more! :) x

  6. It looks gorgeous! And I guess we will never get nice colors in our baths as colors do mix together in the water and the outcome is sometimes these grey, dull colors :)

    1. Exactly! I've had a few in the past turn brown, which is just as bad! I suppose with the actually bubble bar being quite pink, you would expect it to turn the water a pinkish colour! x

  7. I've wanted to try this bubble bar for such a long time, I bought it for my sister for Christmas but I didn't really like the smell, I found it a bit overpowering and it gave me a headache which isn't like me at all :( I may have to give it another go though as you're description of it sounds so nice, maybe the one I got my sister was just a bad batch! x

    1. I feel like when you smell the actual bubble bar itself it does tend to be a bit overpowering and I have to agree it did give me a bit of a headache too! But when you have it in the bath its definitely more subtle :) x

  9. Haha it is a very strange feeling to take your camera into the bath!! This is a great review! I have a similar bubble bar called Bright Side and it did the same thing to my bath. The colors just mixed together and made a grey bath! Which was disappointing! That is nice that it gave you so many bubbles!

    1. Thanks so much for the lovely comment :) I've never tried that one, it does sound rather nice though! I'm not too disappointed about the grey colour because I usually have the lights off with candles burning anyway, so I honestly don't take much notice! x

  10. I know loads of people who don't like this and want the bath bomb back instead. I prefer this one actually to be fair as I find it isn't as strong at the bath bomb. :)

    1. I've never tried the bath bomb, but I've heard it's quite strong too! I tend to prefer bubble bars in general anyways because I much prefer a bubbly bath and usually come out quite sticky when I use bath bombs!! x
