Confessions Of A Blogger | Blogging Bloopers

You've earned  yourself a backstage pass to all the mistakes and secrets behind being a blogger, because let's be honest - it's not all marble desks and gorgeous makeup! I feel like bloggers (me included) take on a kind of persona when it comes to blogging, not to be fake or anything, but just to be the best version of themselves! I don't care how relatable you think you are or how much you share with your readers... we all have those things that we like to keep on the down-low, - not just when it comes to our personal life either, because I also mean all those bloopers that we leave out of our posts! This isn't necessarily a bad thing, we aren't expected to have our shit together 24/7 (no one is that perfect!) and sometimes it's better to keep those moments to yourself. But in light of this subject I thought I would put together a list (and a few examples) of things that I like to keep as a sort of secret from you guys when I'm blogging - the blooper reel if you like, since I've taken a step back lately and realised the amount I keep hidden!!

LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING! //  This might come as a shock to you (haha!) but I actually don't own a fancy marble dining table where I take all of product close ups and blog photography! In fact, my 'fancy' marble background was £5 from a local shop! There are so many great bits and bobs you can pick up that are perfect for blogging backgrounds - you probably even have a few things you can use lying around your house, like I very often use my sofa throw or my scarves in my photos! Also for all of my perfectly white backgrounds that I very often use for my Lush reviews the background is just the back of a giant greetings card that my boyfriend bought me for Valentines day!! I guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't need a big old classy marble desk to get those professional shots - £5 on Amazon and Bob's your Uncle!

MY 'FANCY' WORK SPACE // Although I sometimes like to fantasize myself sitting at my gorgeous marble desk with my iMac, surrounded by adorable rose gold stationery, this is definitely not the case - in fact 99% of the time I blog from my bed... I just find it so much more comfy to write there and if I'm honest, my best posts are written when I'm there in bed, with a nice cup of coffee and a good Spotify playlist! Although I would kill for a lush work space so that I can look like a real pro; my tiny little flat doesn't really have the room, so my bed will have to do for now!

A RIGHT OLD MESS // I feel like this one is true for a lot of us bloggers who love to bake, we all try our best at making all those baking photography pictures look clean and beautiful, whereas in reality its a huge huge mess that we really do not look forward to cleaning up! We use our camera skills to try and get the best angles as to not show that huge pile of flour on the floor or all of those dirty spoons! - any mess that you do see is strategically placed to get the best aesthetic. So now, every time you see my baking posts, just know there was a probably a giant mess behind all of those perfectly placed cakes!

PEOPLE HAVE THE WORST TIMING // This has happened to me on so many occasions, in fact this was what gave me the idea to do a 'blooper' style blog post! I have all of my subjects (including my phone) all perfectly lined up and placed in the most aesthetically pleasing positions, I get out my camera and try to get the best angle as to show off the best lighting and.... someone rings my phone!! 9 times out of 10 it is my boyfriend who I then get very annoyed at, since I had to move everything out of it's perfect position just to pick up the phone and tell him I was busy! I actually accidentally snapped a picture of this in action when I was taking pictures for my 'How To | Get Blogging Organised' post, so you can see just how annoying it is, haha!

GLITTER BATH // Although I am constantly raving about Lush bath bombs and bubble bars and how much I love them, you guys know I especially love the glittery ones.. my bath is decorated with glitter or some sort of colourful substance (?!) 99% of the time! This doesn't mean that I love them any less, it is just a bit of an inconvenience at times!

  1. This is all too true! I always have a white background for my blog posts and insta, which in reality I have to sweep sawdust off every time I use it because it's the lid of the box that houses all the stuff for our pets haha.

  2. You are spot on, Jemma! I can relate to all of these, especially the ones about giant mess. When I do food posts my kitchen looks like a disaster after the shoot. Actually, my all room looks like a disaster after all those photo shoots. But I guess that's what we have to sacrifice for few great shots for our blogs :)

    1. For the marble background I'd start with either Amazon or a local DIY store, you can actually get them really cheap! X

  7. I can completely agree with all of these! I particularly love the last pointer about the bath bombs; a Lush bath is so instragrammable to begin with... all up until it comes to emptying the bath! x

  8. This was interesting and funny to read. I agree a lot of people take on different personas but I'm far too blunt to do that. Pretty much, what you see is my life. :)

  9. The post is on point, I think most bloggers are guilty of all of the things you mentioned, I definitely am haha. I also don't have a blogging space, sitting on my bed while blogging is so much more comfortable anyway. And it is so true that backgrounds are usually fake, in fact I recently had to get really creative when travelling and used a grey blazer to make it look like my products were lying on a blanket haha. xx
