How To | Get Blogging Organised

I've always been quite an organised person, I wouldn't call it OCD - but it's definitely borderline! It doesn't help that my Mum is the biggest list writer you will ever meet, she has lists for her lists I swear! So when I started blogging, more or less straight away I developed ways that I could be more organised with my schedule and ideas etc. I gathered a lot of ideas from around the internet and also made some up myself, so I though I would put them all in one place for all of you out there who are looking to get a little bit more organised with your blog!

BLOG POSTS AND SOCIAL MEDIA

We all know one of the best ways of getting blog views is by sharing sharing sharing on Twitter!! When I first started blogging and hadn't discovered any of the apps, I genuinely used to sit there and manually tweet every hour about my latest post - but I mean, that's not really ideal, since not all of us are sat at our laptop 24/7 (I mean, I am... but anyway!) There are so many apps out there that you can use to schedule tweets, but my favourite by far is Hootsuite. It's such a simple way of being more organised with your tweeting - you can just type in what you want to post, set the time and you're done! I normally set mine up in the morning and then tell it to post a new tweet every half an hour or hour, depending on how active I am going to be that day - I don't want my whole feed to just be plugging my blog (I know how annoying that can be!) SHAMELESS PLUG ALERT: If you aren't already following me on twitter, you can follow me here for daily post updates! *massive grin*

POST SCHEDULE ORGANISATION

When I first started blogging I would just write out each blog post straight into blogger as each post idea came into my head. This quickly got confusing, especially when I had to move dates around to squeeze other posts in. I also tried out using a calendar and having each post on the date that I wanted it published, but that didn't work for long! I then remembered Excel - which I honestly don't think I had used since I was around 10 years old in school (luckily it's so easy to pick up - especially since you only need to use the basic tools!) Excel is pretty much the best way I have found to set out your future posts - you can include everything you need; the date, the name of the post, the tag, whether you've written the post, whether you've taken photos for the post and any extra notes! And then I find its really helpful to change the colour of the posts that I've published. It's so so easy to switch posts around into a different order or move all the posts down so you can squeeze another one in. You could also add in extra columns to suit your own personal steps when blogging like whether the post has been proof read or shared on social media etc. It's also a great way of storing blog ideas for the future, you can go as far into the future as you like and just write in all your ideas for each post - that way you can tell if you have too many beauty posts in a row or something like that!

THE GOOD OLD FASHIONED WAY

The one tip I would give to every blogger out there, is to buy a diary and carry it with you at all times! A diary is any blogger's best friend - you need it for everything; reminding you when a post needs to be published, reminding you when a post needs to be written, reminding you when you need to take pictures for a post etc! I tend to write a to-do list (that's my inner Mum coming out!) on every single day in my diary, and when I've done something I'll tick it off! I always write when a blog post needs to be published or written and since I tend to look at my diary every day it really helps to remind me what needs to be done! It's also a great way of writing down blog post ideas when you're out and about - there always tends to be a notes page in the back of every diary, this is perfect for writing down any ideas that you might have, especially when you're having one of those great days where ideas are coming out of your ears!! If you want a good diary recommendation and you want to know which diary I am using this year you should click here!

There you have it! I hope you enjoyed this little tips post! Also, for everyone who voted in my twitter poll and voted for either baking or mental health, don't worry - those posts will be up next! So if you're interested come back soon! And for everyone who didn't get a chance to vote, be sure to follow me for more polls in the future. Thanks for reading!

  2. Very helpful post, Jemma! Scheduling is everything in blogging. I can not imagine my life without it. I use printed calendar for posts planning and notebook for writing down any ideas that come to my head. But I am also thinking of starting to use Excel to make my life even more easier :)

    1. I bought mine from a local shop for £5, it looks like a roll of wallpaper! But I suppose it's supposed to be stuck on surfaces to make them look like marble - I definitely recommend amazon if you're looking for something similar! X
