8 Struggles All Girls Will Understand

Being a girl is tough, from expectations to inequalities and makeup to shaving we go through a lot of struggles in every day life! I feel like since being with my boyfriend for almost 4 years and living with him for a year now, I've really opened his eyes to the struggles that us girls have to face - Despite him believing that I'm just weird.. and its just me who goes through these things! Obviously it's not all bad and being a girl has its benefits too and also I'm not saying that guys don't have their own struggles or share the same struggles as us! I just wanted to share a few things that I believe most girls go through, so we can all relate and have a laugh about them! I hope you enjoy the post and if you have any other ideas feel free to share them in the comments!

1. THE DREADED BRA // Bras are both the worst and best thing that ever happened. Wearing a bra is never a good experience in my opinion and I don't know if its just me but I can never seem to find the right size?! (Also, I always seem to grow out of bras despite being 20.. have I not finished growing?! haha!) So wearing bras for me is NEVER comfortable, under-wiring is probably my worst enemy and the straps always always dig in despite me adjusting them for what feels like forever! (now I know the bra police are going to be onto me, telling me that I'm wearing the wrong size or not adjusting them correctly, but trust me when I say I've tried EVERYTHING and spent way too much money on different styles and sizes!!) To be honest the only good thing about them is being able to take it off after a long long day - and if you don't agree that this is the best feeling in the world, you are lying to yourself! So, I have pretty much given up on bras altogether (thank god I no longer live in my family home and I don't really have to wear one anymore, haha!) and sports bras have become my best friends if I'm honest...this is coming from a girl who used to wear bras to bed as a teenager, what happened!?

2. YOUR LEAST FAVOURITE AUNT... // I am of course talking about Aunt Flow.. that lovely monthly visitor.. oh there are so many struggles that I could talk about when it comes to periods, haha! First of all I guess I should talk about PMS.. I don't know about you but it happens every single month and I never learn - I cry at everything for an entire week and I genuinely believe that I have mild depression and that life just sucks and then I get my period and I'm like OOHH! It all makes sense now! Just me..?! And then obviously the actual period just sucks in general, I ALWAYS without fail, get crazy cramps on the first day of my period to the point where I just don't know what to do with myself and I end up sitting in the bath for around 6 hours... and every girl knows that when you get these cramps there is nothing you can do - you can move around for hours trying to get comfortable and it never happens there just isn't a perfect comfortable position to sit or lie or stand in!! Let's be honest, blood is just not fun.. at all. I always find that my periods happen at the worst times, like when I'm about to go on holiday or go swimming - and then you see all these adverts on TV that are like 'just because I'm on my period it won't stop me from wearing this entire white outfit and playing tennis' and every girl knows that this is just complete bulls*it, if you want an accurate representation just picture a girl in the comfiest clothes ever, rolling around on the floor making seal noises.

3. BABY HAIRS ARE SO ANNOYING! // As you can tell from the photograph at the top, I am a huge sufferer of baby hairs, (and I need to get my roots done, haha!) and they annoy me A LOT! Honestly, sometimes I swear someone comes along in the night and just chops at my hair and leaves a bunch of wispy hairs at the front of my head!

4. 'I DON'T HAVE ANYTHING TO WEAR!' // Every girl knows this struggle all too well, you're looking through your wardrobe, that is most likely overflowing with clothes.. yet you still can't find a single thing to wear! I feel like I spend way too much money on clothing, and most of it I don't even end up wearing.. or I wear it once and then decide that I don't like the look of it anymore! So pretty much 90% of my wardrobe is unwearable.. trust me! What annoys me the most about this is the fact that my boyfriend can go over to the wardrobe, pull two things out and just stick them on without even looking in the mirror... it's just not fair at all! I honestly can spend an hour deciding what to wear in the morning, putting tights on.. pulling them off again, throwing tops around the room! It genuinely looks like a war zone when I'm finished.. and if I'm honest, most times this happens I either still hate what I'm wearing in the end, or I go back to the first thing that I tried on!

5. PRETENDING WE WERE BORN HAIRLESS?! // As a lazy girl this struggle actually kind of annoys me... shaving is such a pain the ass (and a pain in the shin if you're not careful, haha!) ugh it just takes way too long to shave your legs every few days and honestly I am definitely one of the girls who, in the winter, just lets it all grow out! Honestly, if I were a man, I would be super hairy, haha! (ew?!)

6. MAKEUP TUTORIALS ARE EASY...RIGHT?! // Who else does this?! I watch a makeup tutorial and think 'okay, that looks super easy and the end result is gorgeous so why not give it a go?!' then I go and try it out.. copying the tutorial exactly, and... well let's just say it doesn't really work out as planned! How do they make it look so easy?! And why, if I'm doing the exact same thing they are doing, sometimes with the same makeup.. does mine not end up looking the same as theirs?! It's just not fair at all! This is the same when it comes to hair tutorials also! I can never seem to curl my hair properly, despite following millions of hair curling tutorials on YouTube.. what am I doing wrong?!

7. RECREATING A HAIRSTYLE NEVER GOES WELL... // I don't know if I'm the only one who this happens to.. but it happens quite a lot. It's late at night and I look in the mirror, for once my hair actually doesn't look to bad but then I realise that I'm about to go to bed... so in the morning I attempt to recreate the hairstyle that looked so good last night, it NEVER works!! No matter what I do, I can never recreate the hairstyle properly and it just doesn't look as good. This also happens with messy buns, I can always seem to do them really well before bed, so I wear the messy bun all night long and obviously it's a complete mess in the morning and I just can't get it to look right in the morning.. *sigh*

8. EYELINER. (AKA: THE BANE OF MY EXISTENCE) // I'm not kidding when I say that in my 20 years I have not yet achieved winged eyeliner that I was completely happy with, and I feel like every girl or guy who has ever attempted to do winger eyeliner will understand the struggle here! You get one eye looking somewhat perfect and then you go to do the other eye and it doesn't quite match.. so you make one thicker to try to get them identical and, before you know it.. you're a panda! In the past I have genuinely rubbed my eyeliner off so many times that it gets so sore and red!! And don't even get me started on the fact that I have super hooded eyelids.. it makes putting eyeliner on so so much harder.. all my people with hooded eyelids will totally relate to this.. trust me, it's a struggle.

  1. I'm trying my absolute best not to laugh at this post as I'm reading it whilst at work, but it's all so true! Especially the bra comment, ever noticed that when you think you've found the perfect fitting bra and it stabs you right in the back (literally!!)

So glad I've found your blog!

  2. Great post, I've got a few things to say on this :)
    1. I TOTALLY get that "I feel like I have mild depression" thing right before my period, and in fact it's even started this week. I feel negative, sad and as if nothing could ever go right and I just cry on the phone to my mum all the time (sad admittance there, haha) and she knows and I even tell her each time that it's my PMS. It's crazy right?!
    2. My hair is always the best at night too, or when it's at that not quite clean not quite greasy enough that you HAVE to wash it stage. THAT'S the best time. But you have to have an argument with yourself about whether it's too greasy to go out in as well. I once wore my hair in a bun to bed and woke up in the morning with a messy bun and didn't take it out and it looked great, ha!
    3. The only time I've had perfect winged eye liner was when I got ready and then people cancelled....I was SO annoyed! I was like I GOT MY EYELINER ON POINT DAMMIT! Never again.

      1. That is SO TRUE - I always have those sad chats with my mum like every month, haha! And somehow we never seem to learn do we!!
      2. Thats so good that you woke up with the perfect messy bun! Bet that day was a good day, haha!
      3. That sucks so badly! I feel like I would've just gone anywhere to just show off my winged eyeliner! I need to practice more, because I'm pretty far of from perfect right now!

  3. Hahaha, I loved this, Jemma! I couldn't agree more with everything you have just said. Baby hair are so annoying and taking off a bra after a long day is the best feeling in the whole world for sure :)

  5. Yes to all! I've tried so many beauty tutorials, or tried those "easy" Pinterest hair ones and it always turns into a complete disaster lol PMS is the worst :( I get super crabby and every little thing irritates me. I'm getting better at winged eyeliner though! It's taken me ages, but I'm getting there : ) Great post!

    1. Haha! I hate those tutorials that say 'easy' because they never are - Pinterest is the worst for that!! Yeah I feel like practice definitely makes perfect when it comes to eyeliner, I really need to practice more, haha! x

  6. I found it strange how much I could relate to this post, luckily my boyfriend understands my crazy bursts of "I've got nothing to wear" and "I need to nap" is another one haha! X

  7. I've been wearing makeup daily for four years now and for about two years before that I dabbled in mascara and eyeliner, and I STILL can't perfect my liquid eyeliner. Not even close! I've improved in the last year, but not by much. I still feel inadequate haha! Don't start me on baby hairs they are so annoying! I hardly ever see anyone with them either do I always think it's just me that's stuck with them!
