Apps To Kickstart Your Healthy Lifestyle


Apps are such an easy way to kickstart a new and improved healthy you! Not only can you track your progress but you can also use your phone to motivate yourself to work harder and do more - think of it like a mini life coach! Whatever it is you want to do more of or get better at; working out, drinking more water or even just being a more positive person - there is most certainly an app for it! I've been researching and testing a few healthy lifestyle apps that I want to share with you guys, since some of them have become real life savers for me, so if you want to live a healthier lifestyle easily and cheaply.. keep reading!

POSITIVE THINKING | 'UNIQUE DAILY AFFIRMATIONS'  // Positive thinking for me is definitely the basis of any healthy lifestyle, you need to think positively in order to have a beneficial impact on your body and your mind. I've been using this app for a good while now and it honestly is the best way to start your day. Just hold down the green button and read the positive thought out loud - for example ' I attract great things to come into my life just by thinking about them.' There are so many amazing affirmations that not only get your brain in gear early in the morning but also put you in a better mood about yourself and life in general, ready to start the day on a high note!  

STAYING HYDRATED | 'HYDRO COACH'  // If, like me, you are a bit of a criminal when it comes to drinking enough water in a day then I couldn't recommend this app more! Hydro Coach was genuinely a life saver to me when I started using it 2 months ago - I was getting terrible migraines because I simply wasn't drinking enough and I was really badly dehydrated but then I discovered this app and have not stopped using it since! (I am honestly trying my hardest not to sound like I'm doing an advert for hydrocoach, haha! #notspon) All you have to do is tell the app every time you have a drink of water (or even squash and coffee etc.) and it will track the amount you've drank in a day! The app will give you a target to beat depending on your weight (and other information that you pop into the system when you first sign up) and it will give you little reminders throughout the day if you're a bit behind on water! I literally love this app so much and I have noticed a huge change in the amount of water I drink and the amount of migraines I get recently, haha! 

SLEEPING BETTER | 'SLEEPBOT'  // If you are worried about the amount of sleep / the quality of sleep you are getting I definitely recommend Sleepbot! Not only will this app track your sleep cycle which is a great way of making sure you are getting enough deep sleep a night but it will also track your movement and how much you snore, haha! (I personally find both super interesting to find out!!) You can also set this app to use its 'smart alarm' feature which will wake you up at the best time possible during your suggested time - for example if you set your alarm for 8:30 it will wake you up anywhere between 8 and 8:30 depending on when you are sleeping the lightest, this means you will wake up feeling a lot more refreshed since you weren't abruptly woken up from a deep sleep! If you also have problems sleeping at night you can use their 'help me sleep' feature which gives you some helpful tips! 

WALKING MORE | 'NOOM WALK PEDOMETER' // If you can admit that you are a little lazy but aren't quite ready for the full on workout thing (basically me..!) then I definitely recommend a pedometer! Pedometers are great for making sure that you have actually moved in a day and are brilliant for setting goals, as you can clearly see whether you've beat your target or not! Noom Walk is especially great as it tracks your steps 24/7 but doesn't drain your battery, in fact during 24 hours of use it has proven to only use up 2% of your battery! You can also share your step score with your friends and also write notes about your day - perfect for anyone who wants to get a bit fitter super super easily! 

LEARNING TO RELAX | 'HEADSPACE' // If you need to learn to relax more, this app is the one for you! Everything about this app is calming and peaceful and can really help the most stressed out person to relax, trust me, haha! Headspace is basically just a series of mini 'podcasts' if you like, that you can just sit and listen to peacefully as they teach you how to meditate yourself to a more enjoyable and positive life! It's perfect for any beginner who's new to meditation and doesn't really know what they're doing - I was completely new to it too, and I got on with it so well since the lovely sessions talk you through everything you need to know! You can also listen to themed 'sessions' such as anxiety and acceptance if you need stress relief around a certain topic - I found these super helpful, especially on particularly anxious days! As you listen to each session you unlock the next one so it becomes a sort of challenge to unlock each next session which is brilliant for motivation! And once again, you can share your progress with any friends who also have the app which is again, brilliant for motivation since you can challenge each other! I also highly recomend this app to anyone who has trouble sleeping, I definitely used this app to help me sleep on a few restless nights and found it really helpful, it just gave me something else to think about other than my daily stresses! 

WORKING OUT YOUR MIND | 'LUMOSITY' //As important as it is to keep our bodies fit and healthy, we mustn't forget about our minds! Lumosity is a training programme designed by neurologists themselves to work our your mind and cognitive abilities and keep our brains working well! It features a load of fun games that challenge your mind and really get's you thinking and working different parts of your brain! And of course you can also track your progress to see how the challenges are paying off! It doesn't even feel like a brain workout just some fun and games really!

WORKING OUT YOUR BODY | 'SWORKIT' // If you're looking to get off your bum and work out more then Sworkit might be the app for you! First off, you can type in your specific goal (eg. lose weight / build muscles mass / increase flexibility etc.) and then you choose the exact type of workout you want to do - whether you prefer to focus on cardio, strength or yoga, it's completely up to you! For example if you decide to choose strength you can decide exactly which area you want to target it will then give you a sequence of workouts that you have to complete... and don't worry if you don't know what a 'reverse plank' or an 'genie sit' is they have an animation for each workout that are so easy to follow, it's like having your very own instructor! After each sequence the app will tell you exactly how many calories you have burned and how long you were exercising for so you can track you progress or even share the workout with friends!

  2. i LOVE headspace. I practice yoga everyday and headspace is such a great way to end a yoga practice or even end a night or begin a morning :) Meditation is great - thank you so much for sharing this post. I think its great that people are sharing and promoting a healthy lifestyle!

  6. Loving the sound of some of these. The morning thought of the day app and the workout app sound great. I used to have a drinking app but kept forgetting to update it. For the sleeping app, how does it monitor your sleep, do you have to have it upon your body?
