Update #4 | A Salad & A Smoothie

I've put on weight. Not a crazy amount, but I can definitely tell the difference from last September and now.. let's just say I really let myself go! I really doesn't help that my boyfriend is as skinny as a rake and can eat whatever he likes.. I feel like all of the weight he's supposed to be putting on just comes straight over to me! Also, since I am a huge commitment-phobe and I have a huge lack of concentration and focus, I can't seem to keep up with things like working out and going to the gym. So I basically have 2 choices, I can either sit here covered in cookie crumbs, sobbing over a huge tub of chocolate ice-cream, or I can suck it up and get off my bum -  I've decided that the latter is definitely a better option if I actually want to live to be 21 and not turn into an actual chocolate muffin.
So to kick-start my new healthy lifestyle (never cringed so much in my life..!) I went out and bought a Breville blender so that I could have some healthy smoothies, since fruit is probably as healthy as I'm willing to get.. get that trail mix away from me, ew! So every time we go shopping now I buy a load of fresh fruit (and even stuff that's reduced - since we'll freeze it anyways and OMG healthy stuff is just so so expensive!) then when I get home I chop it all up, which is such a mammoth chore that literally takes about an hour and I always hate the feeling of bananas so that's not my favourite bit at all... then I pop everything into a few zip-lock bags and each bag is a different smoothie, so when I want a smoothie I just take it out, pop it in the blender with a bit of squash and water and I'm sorted!! It's supposed to stop me snacking throughout the day, but I mean that's not exactly working yet... I think I just need an intervention like on one of those 'eating myself to death' documentaries where people come in and gets rid of all oreos and crisps that are in the house! But I was thinking if you guys are interested I could do a 'my week in smoothies' type of post, since I have 1 a day.. though to be honest they all end up looking pink.. so I don't know interesting that would be!

But yeah, just thought I would update since I haven't actually updated you in a really long while! I'm pretty much completely finished with uni now, I just have a portfolio to hand in on the 11th of May and then I am all done for Summer! I don't know whether to be excited though, because that means work.. but then again I do need money because I am so fed up with not being able to buy things! Definitely treating myself to a big ASOS order with my first pay-check! Anywho, let me know what you've been up to lately in the comments, I'd love to know!! Also if you have any tips to help me lose weight that would be lovely - obviously I also try (emphasis on the 'try'!!) to get on my crosstrainer daily, so I am working out occasionally, but if you have any other tips that would be awesome!!

  1. Aw, Jemma, I hope you are not being too harsh on yourself :) If you are trying to get a bit healthier, I would suggest you to do everything slowly. Introduce your daily life with a smoothie first week, then try to say no to sweets the next and do everything slowly. That way you won't demotivate yourself and your body won't start a protest :)

Also, you definitely deserve that big ASOS order once you get your first salary :) Hope you are having a great day! x

  2. I believe the best "diet" is a balanced one and that means not splurging on one thing in particular but not missing anything out either like sugars or fats, cause you still do need them. Don't be too harsh with the snacks though; we're all allowed cheat days, and it'll be hard to just completely stop and go cold turkey with snacks anyways. Good luck though and it would be awesome to have an update on how you're doing :) this was a lovely update post though!

  3. Yes, smoothies! Best thing ever. I like the idea of chopping up bunch of things and having them all ready in the freezer for when you're in the mood for a smoothie.

I'm definitely not a nutritionist or anything but I've done quite a bit of research (books, research papers etc.) and the thing that has worked best for me is definitely cutting out animal products and eating a plant based diet. I know people are freaked out by the word veganism and it's considered extreme and unrealistic and whatever else but really it's not. It's so simple and delicious. When I cut out dairy I lost a lot of fat. I'm not trying to be pushy (people always seem to think vegans push their beliefs onto others) but it's definitely something to look into. Niomi Smart inspired me to go plant based actually, she's amazing!

    1. It's such a good little smoothie system, I love it!

I've always wanted to look into veganism a little more, since pretty much every vegan that I see on the internet looks and seems so healthy and awake! But I really love eating meats, ugh the struggle is real! Perhaps I will try cutting down on the animal products and moving towards the plant based diet! Thanks so much for the lovely advice! x

  4. Yes, don't be too hard on yourself! I've been feeling that way recently but not necessarily because of my lifestyle or diet as I actually eat quite healthily but I'm taking the pill and it's making me gain weight and it's definitely began to knock my confidence a little bit. Smoothies are one of the best things for me. I'd love for you to start the week in smoothies posts because I'm forever making the same ones but mine always turn out green haha.

    1. Awh! You don't be too hard on yourself either! I really hope that you find your confidence again soon! Perhaps I will do a week in smoothies, I'll have to experiment with different colours other than pink and green, haha! x
