An Apology and A Q&A

Ugh. I so wanted to be the blogger who could say she never missed a post day. But it was inevitable, the stress was too much and I just needed that day out in the sunshine to revive myself! But I'm back, at least semi back.. my laptop is still broken, but I miss you guys so I'm doing my best! (You can read the broken laptop story and other stresses here if you really want to, haha!)I probably won't fully be back until September, but we'll just see how it goes from now really! Anyway, so if you follow me on twitter (which you should @jemmasimplelife - lets just ignore that shameless promo, haha!) you'll know that I've been asking for questions for my next Q&A and now that I've compiled a fair few I've decided today would be the best day to answer your questions! Thanks so much to everyone who tweeted me, once again your questions were fabulous! (You can read my first Q&A here) And if you missed out do be sure to keep updated with my tweets so that you can have your question answered next time!

Bucket Brain | 6 Thoughts Of An Anxious Mind

I was once told that our brains are like buckets, when you fill them too much with thoughts and feelings they overflow and that's when you'll really find it difficult to cope. 'Normal' people without anxiety have an empty bucket so they can tackle many different thoughts and feelings and barely even fill their bucket at all. On the other hand the bucket of an anxious mind is already half full or sometimes even closer to overflowing, so even the smallest thought can tip you right over the edge and into full breakdown mode.. lets just say my bucket has been right on that edge recently... I don't know if it's because of my rather hectic to-do list (read more about that here!) or the fact that I barely have any time to just spend time with myself to recover my thoughts but it's once again gotten to the point where I seem to be anxious daily and I can't really cope! I'm just desperately holding onto the fact that I have a week long holiday coming up at the end of August and that is genuinely keeping me going - I think that that is 100% what I need right now, a long tanning session on an empty beach and some lush sunshine! But anyway, for todays post I decided to share a few of the thoughts that come along with my anxiety, to be honest a lot of you out there who also have anxiety (and probably a few of you who don't have anxiety!) will relate to these thoughts too. I've also included a little smidgen of my own advice to each thought, so that we can all remember that we don't need to suffer alone and we can do something about these thoughts; I hope the advice will also remind me to not be such a worry pot lately too! Let me know in the comments if you have also shared some of the same thoughts on your down days and also feel free to share some advice, since we all need a little helping hand every now and again! Also, always remember that if you ever need a chat I'm always around on twitter - you can find me here

4 Summer Struggles All Girls Will Understand

Since my last relatable girl struggles post '8 Struggles All Girls Will Understand' went down so well, I thought why not do another?! Being a girl is pretty hard during the summer months and we go through so many annoying little struggles from shaving to the illusive bikini body to boob sweat.. yes boys who have stumbled over this post you heard me right... boob sweat. So I hope you can laugh along with me in this post while I share some of those relatable things that we definitely have all struggled with at some point during the summer months! Let me know in the comments if you relate to any of the things that I mention and feel free to share your own summer girl struggles, if I've missed anything! Also, if you're looking for more summer struggles you can click here to read the '6 Things I Hate About Summer' where I talk about some of the worst things about summer - I sound like such a summer hater.. I promise I do love summer really, haha!

Update #6 | I'm Busy Until September?!

For once I really NEED to do an update post.. rather than just deciding to write a chilled out update about whats been going on in life lately, I kind of need to fill you guys in on what will be happening in the near (nearer than I thought!) future, as I'm not sure whether it's going to effect my posting on this blog - but I'll get into that later! So as you can probably tell by the title, I have a lot on my plate at the moment, I've basically just sorted out my diary and to-do list and realised that I genuinely am busy now until September and that thought scares me! I actually have one more week of peace before it all kicks off so I'm really trying to make the most of the lazy days! I actually had a really lush day at the beach today.. despite managing to burn my chest and nose... (always wear sun cream people!) So yeah, here's my quick update (/to-do list) if you guys are interested - I'm not entirely sure whether my blog will suffer from my busy schedule, but I am really going to try my best for you!

56 Daily Thoughts Of A 20 Year Old

I've seen posts like this floating around on the blog-isphere recently and I absolutely love reading them, it really makes me laugh to see some of the things that go on in peoples heads - it's also nice to know that we're not alone in some of these weird thoughts! So I decided to write a little 'daily thoughts' post for myself, I had so much fun writing it and it really opened my eyes up to some of the weird things that go on in my mind, haha! I hope you enjoy reading it - let me know in the comments if you share some of the same thoughts as me, because I think we will share quite a few of them to be honest!

The Windy Road To Self Love

"And if I asked you to name all the things that you love, how long would it take for you to name yourself?" I came across this quote recently and it really got me thinking, it's so true thought isn't it, we're all quick to name our family, friends, favourite places and even food before we pop ourselves onto the list of things we love; I feel like we often forget how important self love is but it's definitely something that we shouldn't take lightly! I know I talk about it a lot but living with anxiety truly is a constant battle, there is always so much going 'behind the scenes' inside an anxious persons head.. inside my head, that people can't always see. One of those things that sticks out the most to me, especially recently is hate. Although hate is not a word that I use lightly in my daily life, it's definitely something that has been a big part of my life over the last year - namely self hate. Whenever I have an anxious spell or  a day where I just want to hide under my duvet and not see anyone my first port of call in blaming myself, I blame myself for the way I am, the fact that I can't just be brave and 'man up' and the fact that I can't just be 'normal' and do what 'normal' people do. It's sort of a vicious circle really, because feelings of self hate can often lead to more anxious thoughts that other people feel the same way which will then go on to create more anxiety.. so you see my dilemma! I'm not going to lie and say that the road to loving yourself and accepting who you are is easy, because let's face it, it's not! But it's so important to just get yourself out of that dark place that is self hate and slowly but surely learn to accept yourself for who you are and begin to love yourself for all the things that make you you. So I thought today I would share a few things that you can do to introduce self love into your life, I hope that these will not only help a few of you out there who may be feeling the same way as me, but also I want to give myself a little reminder of all the ways I can put myself first - because it's important to be selfish every once in a while!

Brighton Haul | feat. Tiger & Lush

So we made a cheeky trip to Brighton on my latest day off, I felt like I really needed to make the most of it since my days off are rare and days off when Ethan's not working are even rarer, but we had an amazing day and really enjoyed ourselves out in the sunshine - I will be doing a post in the near future featuring my summer days out so keep an eye for this one if you want to know what we got up to in Brighton! Obviously I couldn't go to Brighton without spending a little bit of money, especially when we went into Tiger, which I absolutely adore! So I thought I would share my little haul with you lot (yes I'm aware my last 2 posts have also been hauls.. can you tell I've been paid, lol!) I didn't buy a crazy amount but the things I've got are worth sharing so why not! Let me know what your favourite bits are from this haul and also let me know what you've been up to this summer since I would love to have a little catch up and see what you've all be doing with yourselves!

Summer Reading List | Thriller Book Haul

I've been so into reading recently, mainly because I have so much more time for reading in the summer, since I don't have deadlines or assignments to worry and there's definitely nothing I love more than sitting out in the sun with a good book! Also, my mum actually reminded me recently how much I used to love reading, she had just come back from a 2 week holiday abroad where she read a couple of books and really recommended I read 'Behind Closed Doors' by B A Paris - you can read my brief review of what I thought of this book in my June Favourites here! As you can probably tell, I have 100% fallen back in love with reading, in particular crime/psychological/thriller books are the ones I tend to go for so that is definitely the theme of these books I'm about to share with you... there's also a weird theme of missing people in all of these, which I've only just realised now, not sure what drew me to that type of book, but hey! So I decided to write a quick post to share some of my recent purchases in the way of books and the books I plan on reading this summer! Just bear in mind, I'm definitely not built to write book reviews so don't expect anything too good, haha! But if you want honest first impressions and recommendations of a few thriller books then you've come to the right place!

I've Done Some Damage | Boohoo Haul

I've been spending guys.. and I need an intervention! To be honest it's been a while since I've really treated myself and as our holiday is now booked I feel like its acceptable to buy a few new clothes for the holiday, right?! Boohoo is always my first port of call when it comes to buying new clothes and whenever I click onto their website there is no way that I'm leaving without making a quick little order.. oops! To be honest I was a little skeptical about a few of the items so I was expecting to have to make a trip to the post office in order to return a few bits, but I actually genuinely fell in love with everything I bought - and this doesn't happen often at all... in fact I'm kind of terrible when it  comes to buying things and never wearing them... I'm just really lazy, okay, haha! So I knew that I definitely had to share my finds and do a haul for you guys, since it went so well and I fell in love with it all! I've also included the links to each item so if you happen to also fall in love with anything I mention you will be able to go straight away and buy it... mwhaha I'm such an enabler! But also so that you can have a look at each item on the models instead of me trying to take a crappy photo of it on me.. or on the floor, haha! Let me know in the comments what your favourite piece is and without further ado.. here is the haul!

Mood Booster!

Summer has been weird so far, it's mainly consisted of cleaning the house and wet walks home from the train station.. oh and work work work. Let's just say it wasn't all I had dreamed it would be.. I kind of feel like a zombie walking around at the moment, too caught up in my to-do list and my work to actually appreciate what I have and what's going on in the world around me! I'm going to be honest, it's been a while since I've genuinely smiled too, I guess I've just been a bit down in the dumps... a bit of a frowny zombie if you like, haha! And you know it's bad when people are constantly asking you if you're okay at work.. lol.. But I'm really trying and summer is supposed to be a happy time, right?! So I've decided to put together a quick list of tips for ways to get yourself out of that slump and back into a happy mood - I've definitely used a few of these recently and they always seem to do the trick, so I hope they help you out too, when you need a little pick me up! I actually did a post similar to this fairly recently called 'How I Cope On Bad Mental Health Days' but I feel like that was a lot more anxiety based, so if you need some tips on how to deal with anxiety you can find that post here! Let me know in the comments if you ever do any of these things to put a smile back on your face and I would also love to hear your own tips if I missed anything!

Review | Fortune Favours The Brave Palette

Here I am with the review I promised... a while ago now.. in my May Favourites post! - Better late than never am I right!.. To be honest this palette is so gorgeous I couldn't not do a review! Makeup Revolution has definitely been one of my favourites brands recently and I'm sure they will slowly take over my makeup collection, not that I'm complaining - I mean who wouldn't love that high end look and quality for such an affordable price tag! This palette designed by fellow blogger Jane Cunningham, aka British Beauty Blogger particularly caught my eye the second I saw it! To be honest lot of you have probably seen this palette floating around twitter or a few beauty blogs.. since everyone knows all beauty bloggers love pretty things and this palette is beyond pretty. haha! Honestly, the second I saw it I HAD to have it, everything about this palette, the variety of colours, the pigment, the different textures and the gorgeous packaging just had me sold and I knew that it had to be mine!

The Ultimate Summer Playlist

Summer so far has been a little bit of a disappointment if I'm honest! The UK sunny weather is most likely given up now and we will have to put with boat loads of rain for the rest of the summer.. in fact most of my summer so far has consisted of soaking wet walks home from work.. fun I know, haha! Nevertheless, when I do actually get out in that summer sunshine I always love to listen to some summer music to put me in a great mood and just relax a little really, whether it be tanning at the beach, drinking a refreshing ice-cold drink on my balcony or going on a sunny road trip with friends! To be honest even if the sun isn't out I love listening to Summer music this time of year to at least make me feel a little summery, even if the weather isn't doing the best job! So as you all seemed to love my workout playlist  I decided to put together a few songs that I love listening to in the summer month - as you can see, my music taste is pretty varied and I definitely popped some good throwbacks in there so hopefully everyone will be able to find something they love! Let me know if any of these songs are also on your summer playlist and also tell me if I've missed any of your favourite summer songs!
