Mood Booster!

Summer has been weird so far, it's mainly consisted of cleaning the house and wet walks home from the train station.. oh and work work work. Let's just say it wasn't all I had dreamed it would be.. I kind of feel like a zombie walking around at the moment, too caught up in my to-do list and my work to actually appreciate what I have and what's going on in the world around me! I'm going to be honest, it's been a while since I've genuinely smiled too, I guess I've just been a bit down in the dumps... a bit of a frowny zombie if you like, haha! And you know it's bad when people are constantly asking you if you're okay at work.. lol.. But I'm really trying and summer is supposed to be a happy time, right?! So I've decided to put together a quick list of tips for ways to get yourself out of that slump and back into a happy mood - I've definitely used a few of these recently and they always seem to do the trick, so I hope they help you out too, when you need a little pick me up! I actually did a post similar to this fairly recently called 'How I Cope On Bad Mental Health Days' but I feel like that was a lot more anxiety based, so if you need some tips on how to deal with anxiety you can find that post here! Let me know in the comments if you ever do any of these things to put a smile back on your face and I would also love to hear your own tips if I missed anything!

MUSIC // Music is something that always boosts my mood instantly and I feel like this is definitely true for a lot of people - we can just stick on a throwback classics playlist or a bit of Arianna and get out of that slump! As silly as it sounds, having a bit of a boogie can be just what you need to cheer yourself up and get into a happier mood. The best thing to do is make a little playlist where you can put all your favourite happy, dance-y songs (none of that depressing James Bay or Adele!) then you can just stick it on when you feel like dancing like no ones watching! My top three songs in my happy boogie playlist are Brightside by The Killers, Exes and Ohs by The Nicol Kings and Crazy In Love by Beyonce - I'm telling you, put those songs on now and tell me you don't want to dance, I dare you, haha!

BRIGHT COLOURS // Bright colours work wonders for good moods! I guess there's something science-y behind it or something but we all know that when you wear a happy colour like a brightly coloured top or a red lip it can really boost your mood! I feel like not only does it make you feel more confident but it can also make the people around you feel happier too, which will definitely reflect on your own mood!

WATCH A FUNNY VIDEO // YouTube is kind of my saviour when I'm upset or down (to be honest, it's my saviour in general, but thats besides the point, haha!) I love love watching happy, uplifiting videos like makeup of DIY videos or even going over to that weird side of YouTube and watching all the funny fails videos - they honestly never fail to make me laugh which instantly makes me feel better! To be honest, if all else fails go over to the baking videos - distract yourself with food...it always works for me, haha!

WEAR YOUR FAVOURITE OUTFIT // Confidence is key when boosting your mood, since you can't really be happy if your a self conscious mess, let's be honest! The best way to gain confidence quickly and easily is to just pop on your favourite outfit or just something that makes you feel great - it doesn't matter if it's not the latest trend, just wear something that you feel comfortable in and that brings back happy times and good memories! For me, I definitely feel happier when I'm wearing more slouchy clothing, since tight clothes can make me feel quite self conscious and I can't really focus on being happy when I'm constantly breathing in, haha!

GOOD DEED OF THE DAY! // Doing a simple good gesture can also be all you need to brighten your day and make it that little bit better! It doesn't have to be anything huge or cost anything at all, honestly it can be something as simple as a smile - as long as you go out of your way to help the other person or make their day better then you're good to go! You never know, you may have just helped them out of a slump too and you'll often find that good deeds don't go unnoticed and will definitely be returned!

  1. I know how you feel, Jemma! I've been a zombie myself last and this week. The job is so mentally and physically draining that I feel tired all the time and fall asleep basically everywhere, haha. I love your little ideas on how to boost a mood. I as well like to listen to music or watch a fun video or a movie to brighten up my mood a bit :) x

  5. Brightside by the Killers is a song I LOVE as well! Your tips would seem common sense, but they are so nice to be reminded to do, and in turn, it does boost your mood. I absolutely loved reading this post, and can totally agree with you on the bright colours. Why have a dull day with dull colours when you can go all out! :) XX
