July Book Haul 2016 | TBR

I've been so into reading recently, mainly because I have so much more time for reading in the summer, since I don't have deadlines or assignments to worry and there's definitely nothing I love more than sitting out in the sun with a good book! Also, my mum actually reminded me recently how much I used to love reading, she had just come back from a 2 week holiday abroad where she read a couple of books and really recommended I read 'Behind Closed Doors' by B A Paris - you can read my brief review of what I thought of this book in my June Favourites here! As you can probably tell, I have 100% fallen back in love with reading, in particular crime/psychological/thriller books are the ones I tend to go for so that is definitely the theme of these books I'm about to share with you... there's also a weird theme of missing people in all of these, which I've only just realised now, not sure what drew me to that type of book, but hey! So I decided to write a quick post to share some of my recent purchases in the way of books and the books I plan on reading this summer! Just bear in mind, I'm definitely not built to write book reviews so don't expect anything too good, haha! But if you want honest first impressions and recommendations of a few thriller books then you've come to the right place!

WHILE MY EYES WERE CLOSED BY LINDA GREEN // This was one of the books that popped up immediately when I was searching for psychological thriller books that were similar to Behind Closed Doors. I also noticed that it was related to the book Room by Emma Donoghue which is another book that I have yet to read - I have seen the film and loved every second, but obviously it's not the same as reading the book! So I knew I definitely had to pick this one up - it promises suspense and is described as a 'nail biting psychological drama' so 100% something that I would be interested in, anything that makes me never want to put it down and I'm sold! From what I can tell from the blurb this book is about a young girl who goes missing while playing hide and seek with her Mum, it looks like she has been taken by someone that might not be a stranger! I absolutely love reading mystery books like this that have you on the edge of your seat, so I'm very excited to start reading this one!

LITTLE GIRL GONE BY ALEXANDRA BURT // From the title you can immediately tell that this book has the same sort of theme as While My Eyes Were Closed, the difference with this one being that the Mum actually suffers a wound to her head and loses her memory of what happened the night her daughter was taken! I really love the concept of this, it kind of reminds me of that old film 'Flight Plan' where the Mum's thoughts are manipulated by the people around her and she starts to really believe that she is crazy - I love that film so much, it just grips me every time I watch it! Obviously I haven't read this book yet though, so I'm not sure if the plot follows that sort of story line or not, but I can tell it has some similarities! Little Girl Gone has been compared to both Gone Girl (which I will talk about soon!) and Girl On The Train, both books which I have heard and seen amazing reviews for, including my Mum who has read Girl On The Train and loved it - so I am obviously extremely excited for this book too!

GONE GIRL BY GILLIAN FLYNN // This book was recommended to me by countless people, so I have to say that this one was by far the one that I was most excited to receive in the post! (Typically it was also the one that came last!) I must admit I have actually already started it too - I really couldn't wait, it was calling my name.. and as expected the beginning is a little slow, which many have told me that it is, but it really is beginning to pick up now that I'm a little way in and things are really starting to happen! Again, this one is about a person that goes missing (I promise I'm not gathering ideas to kidnap someone... although it definitely seems that way!) in this case Nick's wife is the woman who goes missing, and all fingers point to Nick when he starts to uncontrollably act a little suspicious.. but was it actually him.. you'll have to read the book to find out, haha! (I was trying my hardest not to sound like an advertisement, but I was bound to fail sooner or later!) But yeah, the book is good so far and it promises suspense and mystery so what is there not to love!

  2. Oddly enough I found that starting to read psychological thrillers really helped me fall back in love with reading again! I absolutely LOVED Gone Girl - it's very rare that I'll actually go out of my way to buy books by a certain author after reading one of their books, but I hunted all of Gillian Flynn's down after reading Gone Girl!

  4. Awesome post, it was lovely to hear your thoughts on these three thriller based novels. I’ve been getting into reading at the moment just like you. I think summer is the perfect opportunity to delve into new books. Gone Girl looks like it could be an amazing read, and I’m glad you mentioned Girl On The Train briefly, as I can’t wait to read this! Although I don’t naturally sway towards mystery thrillers, I love the idea of being on the edge of your seat not knowing what might happen so I might have to branch out! I’m currently reading a romance book by Sarra Manning called Unsticky, I’ve liked the author’s books in the past so hopefully it will be a good choice. Happy reading! :-) xx

  9. I'm so into thrillers and crime related books too which is odd because I'm a huge scaredy cat otherwise.. I've just read a book called pretty girls, it was so intense but probably the best thing I've ever read! Will definitely check these out though, they all sound amazing x

  11. I recently finished an awesome thriller called "Naked Ambition" by author Rick Pullen. I am not really into politics but I could not put this book down. The author brings this world to life through great characterization and believable storylines. The story is about a down on his luck reporter who discovers a deep web of political conspiracy. The author fills this book full of scandal and intrigue, this book is the perfect page turner for a lazy summer day.
