How To | Manage Your Time (+ be a blogger, student and part time worker!)

Okay, yes. I understand this post is kind of ironic because of the fact that I'm literally writing it on the day that it's due to go up but no ones perfect and I guess it just shows that we all have times where our time management isn't at its best, just like how at times we are completely on the ball with our to-do lists and we have the most productive week! The main reason why sometimes my time management isn't at it's best is because I'm genuinely busy - I work part time, I'm a student, I at least try to have a social life and I try and get up posts every other day so in reality I do have quite a busy schedule... That's not to say I don't spend my days off slothing about and procrastinating because I definitely do have those days! But anyways, I thought for this post I would share a couple of time management tips, not only for people who are juggling a job and a blog or students who also have part time jobs but basically for anyone who has a busy schedule and needs a couple of tips to get them through this busy time! I hope you enjoy, feel free to share any more tips you might have in the comments below!

PRIORITISE // When it comes to my own busy schedule I obviously have to put university first on my list of priorities. As much as it pains me to say it my dissertation needs to come first over taking blogging photos and and writing posts. Sometimes we just need to get the important things out of the way to actually enjoy  or have the motivation to do the the other things that we need to do. I don't know about you, but I know for sure that I can't concentrate on writing a good post for my blog when I know that I have an assignment due in a week or when I know that my house is messy and it should've been cleaned weeks ago - I always have to get these important things done first before I can fully enjoy blogging and actually put my mind in the blogging zone, otherwise I'll just be distracted by the other, more important responsibilities and I won't be writing the post to the best of my ability! It's also just so refreshing once you get these important things done and out of the way so you can relax and stop worrying about them! So unfortunately, the beauty haul can wait while you finish writing that big assignment that needs to be done - at the end of the day you need to do what's best for you in the long run and a late blog post is miles better than a bad grade on your degree!

TAKE A BREAK! // It's always important to remember that if it all gets a bit too much no one is going to hate you for taking a break! Sometimes we can all get caught up in the stress of our busy schedule and it can definitely seem like an impossible task to get through a busy week full of work, blog posts and assignments, so if you need a break then take it - no ones perfect and everyone needs to just stop and breathe every now and again! This is so true when it comes to blogging, if you're finding it difficult to get posts up regularly for your readers and the thought of getting these posts up is stressing you out, just stop and take a little break! No one is going to feel any differently about you if you just admit that you need to take a break from blogging for a while whilst you go through a busy period in your life. There is nothing worse than feeling pressure to upload a post purely because you have to stick to your post schedule, it's not enjoyable and you probably don't feel proud of that post - it's just for the sake of it! At the end of the day, if you're not enjoying your hobby, fix it! Take a break and come back to it and you'll feel much better - trust me!

PLAN AHEAD // I cannot stress how important planning is when you have a busy schedule, it's pretty much the number one rule for good time managment, I'm sure! Not only do I plan my blog posts ahead using an excel spread sheet, but I also have a to-do list that I keep in my phone - both of which are great ways of keeping a good schedule when you're busy! For blogging an excel spreadsheet can work wonders! I have a very basic post schedule that I keep up on my computer at all times, it shows me the title of each post, when they need to go up, whether I've written it/taken photos for it and notes on what I might like to include in the post - it's such a simple way of keeping on top of blog posts and knowing exactly what needs to be done and when! (Honestly, if I can do it anyone can do it!) My to-do list on my phone really helps me out too, not only does it show me my work schedule and the times I'm due to be in work but it also shows me all the other bits and bobs that I need to get done in the week. For example, it might say something like 'Tuesday - plan assignment' so I know that on my day off I need to at least plan my assignment! I always try to be realistic with my to-do list so that I'm not stressed out but at the same time I get everything I need to do done. Also, I don't know if its just me but ticking off the little checklist at the end of the day to show what I've done really does make me feel good.. is that weird, probably?!

MAKE THE MOST OF YOUR DAYS OFF // It's so important when you have a busy schedule too, to just actually take your days off as days off and just have a breather! I know it can be tempting for some of us to work through our days off and get that to-do list done but in reality you're probably going to run out of steam by the end of the week - so at least take half of your day off to actually relax, pamper yourself maybe and just recharge so that when you go back to have productive days again you can work to your full potential and get out the best blog posts, or work to the best of your ability! Knowing that you actually get a day off soon is also great motivation to keep going, when you're busy writing that assignment and hating life you can look forward to Tuesday when you get to sloth in bed with YouTube and just relax!

  1. I definitely agree with everything you've mentioned :) Spreadsheets work so well for me too, I might have already created one for my 2017 blogging schedule during the weekend! Might seem a bit early but I just really like getting organised. I think taking a break when you need one is also an important thing to remember. A few weeks ago I took a bit of an unintentional blogging break just because I felt very stressed and unmotivated so I needed some time to get reinspired x

  2. I really like this post! I've just started University and I'm finding it hard to multi task with the work load and also blogging at the same time! I feel like I never have a break, so maybe I shouldn't be so hard on myself if I miss a day! Thanks for the tips, it's interesting to see how other people deal with juggling tasks!
