When You Run Out Of Ideas

I feel like every blogger has been there at some point, you know that moment when you sit down to write your next blog post and you're just empty, you have no ideas and you don't know what to blog about. Before you know it you're post is due to be published and you're still too busy browsing BooHoo or watching vlogs! Don't get me wrong though, there are definitely times when I've got ideas coming out at all angles, luckily this seems to be me at the moment and I've planned most of my posts up until the New Year! But I've definitely been there and it can be so frustrating when you run out of inspiration because I always feel like it makes me want to avoid blogging altogether - if I'm all dried up when it comes to ideas, why bother?! But we shouldn't feel this way, since at the end of the day blogging is supposed to be fun, so I've decided to share a few of my own tips for when you've run out of ideas. If you're feeling like this at the moment, don't let it get to you - just keep going and you'll get over the slump and ideas will come to you again soon enough, trust me! Let me know in the comments if you do any of these things too and also feel free to add your own tips.

TAKE A BREAK // If you're completely blank when it comes to ideas the first thing I definitely suggest is don't try and force yourself to write a post! The first thing I do when I'm not feeling at all inspired is I step away from my blog for a moment, whether it be an hour, a day or even a week - sometimes we all need a little break to refresh and become inspired again! I usually just give myself an hour to begin with, I might go away and tidy the house quickly or catch up on a couple of blog posts, then I go back to the post I'm trying to write and at least write down a couple of ideas, whatever words that come to mind. This isn't always enough though and sometimes you need to take a longer break - just remember that people won't forget you if you stop blogging for a moment and they'll forgive you, so give yourself that well deserved break, come back and feel inspired again!

GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO THINK // Something else I love doing is just stepping away from my computer entirely and giving myself a little time to think. Just give yourself a little space to think about what it is that you actually want to write about and what posts you think your readers would like to read! If you're someone who loves getting outside, go for a walk - I always find that ideas just seem to pop into my mind when I go for a walk, whether it be alone or with my boyfriend. Even just having a chat with him sometimes can just spring some ideas into my head. Just make sure that you take your phone or a notebook to write any ideas down! If the ideas of going outside doesn't sound quite so appealing to you have a bath, do some blog photography, just anything that gives you time to think away from a screen and any distractions!

HAVE A REFRESH // I feel like we all reach this stage at some point, where we get a little bit bored of our blog and it makes us not want to write posts anymore - we get dried up and can't find any inspiration because our blog isn't the way we want it to be. Whenever this happens to me I like to change my blog around a little bit, add in some new elements, change the colours up or even go for a whole new layout if I need a complete re-vamp! When I give my blog a refresh it makes me fall in love with it all over again and it definitely makes me want to write new content, if only to show off my new layout to everyone, haha!

READ READ READ! // I love reading other people's blog posts and it's probably one of the main ways that I get my inspiration. I'm not saying at all that you should read someones blog post and copy their exact idea or content, but there are no rules against pulling some ideas out from different blogs and posts and changing them to fit your own content and style. Sometimes even just looking at someones blog photography can really inspire me too and give me some ideas for future blog posts!

SEASONAL INSPIRATION // The seasons and events in the year are an amazing place to start when you've ran out of ideas. There are tonnes of blog posts ideas that are perfect for Autumn, Christmas, Summertime - you name it! Also, there are lots of lovely bloggers out there who even write posts where they share a huge amount of ideas for each season or event! Honestly, get on Google or Twitter, search for them and then come back and tell me you don't have any ideas... I'll wait, haha!

  1. These are all great ideas. I always find reading other blogs or even books helps me to get some more blog ideas as does taking a break for a day (or maybe a week) since it helps me to refresh. I haven't felt so inspired to blog the past few months, but I've planned a little blog refresh for 2017 and now I have tons of ideas!

  2. What helps me the most is definitely reading or like you said giving myself to think and brainstorm ideas :) I recently was in a bit of a blogging rut but what helped me get out of it is reminding myself of what it is I actually want to do on my blog, so I really just had to reconnect with my purpose in a way and now I have a lot of ideas again x
