Struggles Everyone Understands At Christmas

Don't get me wrong, Christmas is my favourite time of the year! Full of family and lights and cosy evenings tucked under a blanket.. it really is the most wonderful time of the year! But we all know it does come with its stresses and struggles, particularly when it comes to present giving! I am especially feeling the stress this year, having to tackle university deadlines and working in retail (don't even get me started on working in retail at Christmas, that's a whole other blog post.. maybe next year, haha!) - you can only imagine my breath of relief on Christmas eve when I can actually forget about all that and genuinely enjoy Christmas. But yes, my relatable 'struggles series' seems to go down well every time so I thought I would write a new one all about relatable Christmas struggles since I'm sure I'm not the only one feeling the stress this December! I do hope you're all having a lovely December so far though... despite the stress! Let me know if you can relate to any of these struggles and also feel free to add your own in the comments below, I would love to read them.

1. PEOPLE ARE SO HARD TO BUY FOR // I feel this struggle every single year, particularly when it comes to my Dad actually, he's just so hard to buy for! We know the struggle all too well, every year you make a list of everyone you need to buy for and you begin to write little ideas of what you need to get everyone... then that list becomes the bane of your existence! There's always those people you just have zero ideas for and you genuinely loose sleep trying to think of something, anything to buy for them! You genuinely begin to hate anyone who utters the words 'I've finished all my Christmas shopping!' Eventually you just have to go with your gut and buy them the shower gel gift set and you wrap it up and stick it under your tree but then the paranoia sets in. Will they even like their gift? What if someone else has bought this for them too?!

2. ONLINE SHOPPING // Every year I decide to get a bit of my Christmas shopping done online... it's easier right?! Less stressful?! Every year I forget that actually online Christmas shopping can be ten times more stressful when it doesn't go to plan! Particularly when you remember that the postman has the worst timing and you end up with a pile of 'we couldn't deliver your parcel' notes... So many that you and the lady at the post office are pretty much buddies, haha! Either that or you're knocking on your neighbours door daily because the postman left the delivery with them instead - that's what seems to be happening with me this year, I don't think our neighbours are too impressed!

3. ...BUT TOWN IS ALWAYS BUSY! // And even if you decide that online shopping is too stressful; good luck Christmas shopping in your local town! Like where do all these people come from?! You can go out on a Tuesday afternoon and it is PACKED and that just makes me so stressed! There's also the coat or no coat debate - because you know you should wear a coat because it's winter and it's cold out, but you also know that you are going to get so hot and sweaty when you go into any shops and are met with the hoards of people and you don't want to have to carry your coat! And good luck to anyone who does their shopping last minute - I must admit I do sometimes leave a few of mine to the last minute, and every year I say that 'next year will be different'... that never happens.

4. IT'S TOO COLD OUT OF BED // During winter I always find it difficult to get out of bed! It's too cosy and warm and the outside world is just way too cold this time of year! Not to mention it's also always so dark when I have to wake up so it genuinely feels like the middle of the night! (Especially when I have work and I have to wake up at 5:30am) I do love those cosy mornings spent in bed though, when you have a day off and you can just spend all morning tucked up under the sheets - these always feel better during winter when it's super cold out!

5. DREADED SECRET SANTA // 'Let's do secret Santa' are words that I dread hearing this time of year. Yes, I'm full of Christmas spirit and I want to feel as festive as possible, but I draw the line at secret Santa and become a bit of a scrooge actually, haha! To be honest I don't want any part of it really, not only do I literally have £0 in my bank account because of all the Christmas presents I've been buying, but the thought of picking a name out and it being someone that I don't like or that I maybe don't know that well scares me, haha! Okay, I don't mind it when it's just a small group of my closest friends, but I'm already buying them a present anyway... so why bother?! I just hate it when you're forced to participate in secret Santa at work because you always end up with that one person that you don't really know that well so you end up having to go on a hunt through town with you £5 trying desperately to find something that doesn't suck! Can you tell I don't like secret Santa... haha! Luckily I wasn't forced into any this year!

  1. I love this post! You're so right that Christmas comes with it's own set of struggles - straining your brain thinking of gifts and being bashed around in the crowds can be so stressful! That being said, I do love Christmas so it is worth it :)

I hope you have a lovely festive period!
