Little Habits To Add To Your Morning Routine

I promise I'll stop talking about the new year at some point, but that 'some point' is not today, haha! All of my posts just seem to fit the 'new year, new me' thing and I can't help but mention it. Anyways, I've tried to be more of a morning person this year and so far it's actually going pretty well. I mean having work at 6am three times a week kind of forces you to be a morning person, but even on my days off I now try and be up before 9:30am. I talked about being more of a morning person in a post a while back actually and that was more about how to actually wake up early and start your day right - so you can read that here if you want some tips on that! But for todays post I wanted to talk about little habits that basically make up the perfect morning, almost like a little routine that would set you off on the right track every morning, you can also incorporate these easily into your normal morning routine, simple as that! All of these things are perfect for maintaining not only a health body but also a healthy brain, so if you're working to being more of a morning person and are looking to have a healthier lifestyle by adding little habits to your morning, you've come to the right place! If you have any other ideas feel free to share them in the comments below and also let me know if you are going to add any of these little habits to your morning routine!

WAKE UP EARLY // The best place to start if you want a healthier start to your day is by waking up early. There are so many benefits to having an early start, not only will you probably be more productive since you have more time to get things done, this will also reduce the stress in your day - meaning your mental health will thank you! I always find that when I wake up early I'm really motivated to get my to-do list done, I love spending mornings being productive so that by the evening I've done everything I need to do and I can let my body relax before bed. Of course it's also important to establish a beneficial sleep routine, since you can't wake up earlier without going to sleep earlier - so if you're going to be waking up earlier be sure that you are still getting enough hours sleep in order for your body to properly rest!

MAKE YOUR BED! // I must admit this one if the easiest task for me to include in my daily routine, since the first thing I always do when I get up is make the bed, because this is something that I've always done! I am a huge advocate for making the bed in the morning because it really does set me up for the day, I always feel ready and motivated to get stuff done once the bed is made... it also stops me from getting back in, especially in the winter when that's all I want to do!

GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO THINK // This is something I need to start incorporating into my own routine since it's not something that I actually give myself time for in my day, let alone in the morning! Giving yourself time to think is so important as it can clear your head, get out any negative thoughts, which works wonders for your mental health and it can also bring out your creativity - and what better time for all of those things than in the morning?! There are so many different ways you can give yourself time to think in the morning, you can meditate and just give yourself time to clear your mind and take in the sounds around you or one thing that I'd definitely love to try out again is the Headspace app which is a free app that is sort of like a podcast in that it talks your through meditation and mindfulness techniques that help you to have a healthier and happier life (#notspon). There are also writing method like the gratitude journals where you write down something you're grateful for every day or you could even try that challenge where you just let yourself write for 10-20 minutes and you literally write down whatever comes to mind! All of these are great ways of clearing away any negative thoughts in the morning and starting a fresh slate ready to start your day off right!

DRINK WATER // Drinking water is something I constantly forget about... I'd honestly probably forget if I had 'drink water' tattooed on my forehead. But yeah, drinking water is super super important not only in the morning but constantly throughout the day, in order to keep you hydrated and keep you healthy - there are so many benefits, honestly Google them, haha! As much as we don't like doing it (I can't be the only one!) you have to admit drinking water does make you feel more awake and just makes you feel good - especially if you drink water regularly. In the morning we definitely need water, since our body wakes up de-hydrated after sleeping - so the best thing to do in the morning is down a glass of nice cold water, it's the perfect start to the day!

  1. I actually think there's nothing better than early mornings! :) I personally love getting up early, making a healthy breakfast & starting the day off right. A habit I'm currently adding to my routine is stretching for five to ten minutes every morning which so far I'm really enjoying. Giving yourself time to think is a great tip too, it can make such a difference x

  4. I think it's good to make time to have a proper breakfast. I always look forward to that and know that if I get up early then I'll have time to do it, whereas if I get up late, I'll have to completely miss breakfast :(
There's nothing better than coffee, toast and boiled or scrambled eggs for breakfast <3

  7. I don't have any choice with the early morning part as I have a toddler whose body clock is set to 6am. However, I actually quite like it, as it means I can (once awake!) have many chores and homework done even before 10am.
I've begun trying not to look at my phone in the morning until I've had a glass of water and sat and had 5 minutes.
I definitely am also trying to be more conscious about drinking more water. So many benefits. :)
