Positivity & Self Care Tips

I've been rambling on about it so much over the past few week but January is tough. Going back to reality after Christmas is stressful and daunting and just not that nice, to the point where it's so easy to just forget to look after yourself, especially your mental health. Self care is so important, especially during stressful times, so that you can not only stay sane and keep your mental health happy but also so that you can maintain a good relationship with yourself - 'cause you've got to look after number one, you know! So today I wanted to share a few of my tips when it comes to self care, these are some things that have really helped me in the past and over the past few weeks, so hopefully they will help you too if you're feeling a bit stuck or a bit down - don't worry you're not alone! You can also read one of my recent posts here which is also all about self care, where I share some of the things that actually make me feel better personally when I'm feeling stressed, so if you need more tips, go there! Feel free to share your own tips in the comments below and also be sure to let me know if you found any of these tips helpful!

GIVE YOURSELF A BREAK // Taking breaks when you need them is so important for self care, if you ever get overwhelmed or overly stressed you should definitely allow yourself time to relax and recuperate without feeling guilty for taking a break. Whether it's an hour and you just run a bath, or you take a whole weekend to get away from daily stresses allow yourself that time away from stress to breathe and fully relax.

DRINK WATER // When I'm feeling a bit down or unmotivated it's usually because I'm dehydrated - I never drink enough water and I know it's so bad for me, but I'm working on it so don't worry, haha! Drinking water is so important for self care, I don't know about you but just drinking a glass of cold water when I'm feeling a bit down can be just what I need to wake me up a bit and get me out of those spaced out moods.

SOCIALISE // Although it might be the last thing you want to do socialising can actually really help, you don't need to spend an entire day with a big group of friends if you don't want to - I just mean chat to a friend on WhatsApp or Skype a family member. Trust me, it will make you feel so much better, rather than moping around you can not only make yourself feel good but the other person feel good too.

TREAT YOURSELF // Treats are so important, which is good because treats are great, haha! Treating yourself to things should not be overlooked when it comes to self care because treating yourself to things helps to keep you happy! So go out and buy yourself that chocolate bar, or that bath bomb - or even just treat yourself to a pamper evening, whatever you need to be happy and healthy!

PHYSICAL EXERCISE // Although it's not the most fun thing in the world, exercising is also very important when it comes to self care. Obviously it helps to keep you physically healthy but also exercising releases endorphins that work to make you feel happier and trigger a positive feeling in the body! So get out there - and I don't mean you have to physically work out (although you can if that's you're style!) you could literally just get out for a walk or a run if you want to.

SLEEP // Getting a good amount of sleep is so important for your mental health and for self care. We all know that a lack of sleep reacts badly with your body, you feel run down and unmotivated - so it goes without saying that getting a good amount of sleep makes you feel the opposite! So be sure to get a good 7-8 hours rest a night in order to feel mentally and physically happy and ready to take on the day when you wake up!

DOCUMENT YOUR FEELINGS // Getting your feelings out of your head, off of your chest and out into the open is seriously key when taking care of yourself. You could do this by talking to a friend, or someone you trust or even if you have feelings that you don't want to share with anyone, write them down on paper or in a journal. Bottling up thoughts and feelings can really put a strain on your mental health so be sure to get things off your chest in whatever way you find comfortable.
