EXPOSED: A Realistic Day In My Life

You already know the deal, us bloggers aren't all coffee shops and marble dining tables - as much as we sometimes like to appear like this in our posts... (that we write from our bed whilst we dream about blogging from our perfectly organised office complete with rose gold stationery!) ...even we can't hide the fact that our lives sometimes get a bit stressful and our washing pile does sometimes overflow ridiculously, haha! I always liked watching those 'day in the life' videos on YouTube but I mean come on, they're definitely not realistic; so today I kind of wanted to share the other side of me, the real side if you like.. (gah that's scary!) and give you an actual real insight into my daily life including all the nitty gritty bits that I would probably prefer to leave out, haha!

5:08AM // Yes you read that correctly, I wake up at 5:08am. I've pretty much timed it so I get to lie in as late as possible and still leave my house at 5:30 ready for work at 6.. yes I've got it down to a tee! I honestly hate waking up so early and every morning I sit on the edge of my bed hating life - woo, haha! But once I've sat contemplating whether or not I actually want this job, I make my way downstairs and find a good YouTube video to stick on and get me in the mood for the day. I have to put my makeup on in the bathroom and get dressed downstairs because I can't stick the bedroom light on and wake up Ethan! I literally have no time to get ready on work days so I literally stick on concealer, powder and a little bit of bronzer - every morning I look at my gross beauty blender and tell myself that I will order a new one later... I never do! I also usually just chuck my hair up in a messy bun because I can't be bothered to do anything else with it, woo! I then go over to the kitchen and get dressed into my uniform, I genuinely hate our uniform, especially the flared trousers we have to wear so you can imagine how self conscious I am at work, haha!

5:30AM // At 5:30am precisely I make my way out of the door ready to walk to work, I have to bundle up warm this time of year because it's super duper early which I hate! It's also really dark this time of year so that's always fun. I don't usually listen to music on my way to work because I actually really love having that little bit of time to think, I usually try and psyche myself up for the day and tell myself we're going to be finished super early and I also like planning out my day so I know what needs to be done when! One thing that I also do on the way to work is avoid foxes! I know... it's the worst part about living in the city, they scare me so much so I always try and make my footsteps sound really loud so they run away, haha - Living the life!

6AM // After a quick coffee in the break room I swipe my card to clock myself in and make my way to my shift.. boo! I don't know quite why, but at the moment I've been feeling really anxious at work recently, so this is the point where usually start feeling a bit weird. This is also the point where I realise we're actually going to be finished super late today because for some reason we've been really busy recently.

11/12AM // Because of the job I have we usually don't know what time we're going to finish and we're just done when we're done, but recently we've been finishing between 11am-12am which is never fun - I know 6 hours doesn't sound like long but when you're literally walking the entire time it does get pretty exhausting! (I feel like I should also explain what my job is by the way for anyone confused, haha! I basically pick the grocery shopping for deliveries, so that consists of me basically grocery shopping for 5-6 hours - exhausting as you can imagine!) I then make my way home, usually pretty happy that I'm done with work for the day! On my way home from work I actually tend to schedule my tweets for the day since I have a spare 15 minutes of walking that I might as well do something with, haha!

11:15/12:15AM // Once I get home I usually strip my uniform straight off and get into my pyjamas as soon as I get in the door, I also usually go and wipe my makeup off straight away too and I honestly can't think of a better feeling than that - I love my comfort! I then stick the kettle on and make myself a well deserved cup of coffee and tell myself that I also deserve a break... I usually then end up watching YouTube for a lot of the afternoon whilst I procrastinate away the huge washing pile and uni assignments that need to be done... oops!

3PM // Once 3pm hits I'm usually pretty tired from my early morning, so in true old woman fashion I tend to have a nap, haha! The worst thing is if I oversleep and nap for too long I normally wake up feeling way worse so it's probably not the best thing to do. But I try and just have an hour as I've found that's the perfect amount of time to wake up feeling at least a little bit more refreshed and awake!

4PM // Once I wake up I usually try and do something at least a little bit productive, I tend to write a blog post, reply to blog comments or if the weather's pretty nice I might take some blog photos! I also really try my best to get on with uni work too (although I tend to have full on uni assignment days on my days off work!) but I might at least have a look at the work and make a plan.

5PM // It's around this time that I usually start thinking about making tea, I must admit I'm not super healthy when it comes to tea time and I don't really pay much attention to calories or how much salt I'm adding to things... oops! I've actually really gotten into cooking recently though I've moved on from living off frozen meals - woo! A typical meal for me to make is something like spaghetti bolognese or chicken curry and I also make some pretty amazing potato slices, so we pretty much have those with every meal, haha!

6:30PM // Once tea is ready we make our way to the dining room and eat our tea on our new dining table which I love - we actually used to eat off our laps in the living room before we had a dining table and I used to hate it, so I'm loving life with this table, haha! We usually watch Prison Break on my laptop and at the moment we're on Season 4 so I'm dreading the day when we get to the end of the series.. so you can imagine how happy I was when I found out there's another season!

7PM // After tea I have to tidy up straight away so that the kitchen is super clean and organised! Then I probably end up procrastinating more in the evening... oops! I tend to write blog posts in the evening snuggled up under a blanket on the sofa in the office while Ethan games on his computer. I also 9 times out of 10 can be found in the bath most evenings, usually neck deep in Lush products and watching a YouTube video!

11PM // Once I'm done procrastinating I usually make my way into bed to watch even more YouTube or read a book, at the moment I'm currently reading The Couple Next Door which is taking me way longer to read than I am willing to admit! I tell myself that I want to make the most of my lie in in the morning and actually stay in late (since on work days my bedtime is strictly 11pm) but I usually end up asleep by 11:30pm!

  1. I've never read any 'days in the life' posts but it's nice to know that other bloggers lead normal lives too haha. It's a struggle fitting in my work, uni, blog and hobbies so maybe I'll do a similar post one day.
Also, there's really nothing to fear about foxes and their hearing and sense of smell is so acute that you probably don't need to stomp past haha.

  2. I used to start work at 6am too (I worked on the delivery shift for a supermarket) and I found it SO draining. Getting up so early every morning feels unnatural and actually made me feel ill all the time, so I can understand why it makes your anxiety flare up!

  4. I love how realistic this post is! People always think that bloggers have that "perfect life" but this post showed the real side of a blogger's life that readers might not know.
Oh and by the way, I absolutely love your blog's makeover!
