Little Ways To Say 'I Love You' This Valentines Day

Valentines day is fast approaching and to be honest having been with Ethan for five valentines days now we never really do much anymore and I'm totally okay with it! Actually the highlight of last years Valentines was going to see Fifty Shades.. and I'm sure the highlight of this years' will be Fifty Shades Darker, haha! (Is that sad..? Probably, yes.) But yeah, we don't really feel the need to do anything extravagant anymore and we've been there, done that in a way - I remember the 2nd Valentines we spent together we rushed off on a train to Bristol after skipping fifth period at sixth form (that's as romantic as it gets if you ask me, haha!) and had a over priced meal at an Italian restaurant and then wandered around for hours until it got dark and although it was so lovely and I loved every second, now that we live together we can pretty much just do that whenever we want (except not Bristol.. because it's pretty far from here!) so the novelty of Valentines day just doesn't work for me! I also definitely believe in showing everyone I love that I appreciate them as often as possible, be in Valentines Day or not, so there's that! It is nice to have Valentines Day as a little reminder to show this appreciation though, in little ways, be it to a partner, a family member, someone you have a crush on or a friend. So today, I decided to give you lot some ideas of little ways you can say 'I love you' on Valentines day...or any other day of the year to be honest..! Let me know in the comments if you have any other little Valentines day ideas and I hope you enjoy!

1. HANDMADE CARDS //  Me and Ethan actually did this around 2 years ago, I just said to him let's both hand make cards and give them to each other on Valentines Day, we didn't live together at the time so we both went home and worked on our little cards, haha! It was so cute opening them up on Valentines day, not only were the personalised and something we can keep forever but you can also tell how much effort we put into each of them and that's what made them so special! I love this idea because while you could probably buy a lovely card from Tesco, it probably won't be personal and have a special meaning to the person you're giving it to which is something you can do with a DIY card! Not to mention, cards are expensive!

2. SMALL 'IN JOKE' GIFTS // We also did this at the same time as giving the handmade cards, we decided to not buy each other many presents for Valentines Day because we were both pretty much broke, haha! I suggested that we buy each other something personal or funny for under £5 and in a way on Valentines Day it was so much more exciting to open this present because I had no idea what he was going to get for me (it wasn't predictable like roses or chocolate!) I actually ended up getting a teaspoon that was cut in half because we had a running joke that Ethan was really fussy by wanting only half a teaspoon of sugar in his coffee, and I used to complain that it was too complicated to give him half a teaspoon.. I've obviously kept it and it's so much more personal than chocolates that would've been devoured and forgotten about!

3. JAR OF LOVE NOTES // This is something I've seen on Pinterest a lot and I think it's a really cute idea, that's also really inexpensive! The basic jist is that you get a cute jar and fill it with little slips of paper all folded up, on the slips are cute phrases, memories and things that you like about the person you're giving it to. The person you gift it to can then grab out a slip of paper when they're feeling down or need a pick me up and feel instantly loved and cheered up! I think this is the best idea for long distance relationships where you can't always be with the other person, that way they can read your words when they're feeling needy and feel much better for it!

4. STAY IN AND HAVE A MOVIE NIGHT // I can vouch that you don't have to go out on Valentines Day to have a good time and to be honest, I'd much rather sit inside under a blanket with all my snacks, in the warmth - especially this time of year! If this is more you speed too I definitely recommend having a super cute movie night with your partner. You can either keep it really simple, choose a film together, snuggle up and have the popcorn at hand! Or you can make things really cute by making your own DIY tickets and giving them as a gift Valentines morning - you could even give them a box full of all the essentials, tickets, the film itself and some popcorn - how adorable is that?!

5. PANCAKES FOR BREAKFAST // We did this a while back for our anniversary and honestly there is nothing more cute than making pancakes together - I love it! It's honestly just a simple way to make breakfast special, you can cook together, have a laugh, have fun and eat a delicious breakfast treat too! Also, if you're feeling like pancake pro's you could also make some super adorable heart shaped pancakes for the occasion
